About Us: Family Ceiling Business

In 1995 Jim and Kim Brown started Superior Acoustical Ceilings as a partnership in Royal Oak, Michigan. The company began like many family businesses, using personal resources and in their case, Kim's Mercury station wagon as the first company vehicle.

As they humbly worked with a strong will to succeed as small business entrepreneurs a basic vision was followed, which still stands today: To deliver a finished product to the customer at a level which exceeds their highest standards.

For the first few years they put in many long hours trying to build a list of reputable clients that would cover both the commercial and residential ceiling markets. Today many of those customers still make Superior their first call when they require any type of ceiling work; Birmingham Public Schools, Blackwell Ford of Plymouth, Bloomfield Township City Offices, Pennebaker Home Builders of Milford, St. Clair Shores City Offices, St. Mark's of Goodrich, The Moose Preserve Bar and Grill and their affiliates, The Original Pancake House of Michigan, Village Station of Columbiaville and many others.

In 1998 as the business continued to grow Jim incorporated Superior to aid in the company's future development. Unfortunately, shortly after the new millennium and moving the business to the northern boarders of Oakland County, the construction market began to decline. Jim knew he had to make some bold changes to keep the company going strong, so starting in 2004 he set out on a crusade attending evening classes at The Charles Stewart Mott Community College in Flint, Michigan to advance his business skills. Upon the completion of fifty-nine credits at Mott Jim transferred to Northwood University's Adult Degree Program; finishing his undergraduate course work in 2009 with Cum Laude Honors. A year after completing an Associate in Management and a Bachelor in Business Administration from Northwood, he decided again to further his education. In the fall of 2010 he applied and was accepted to graduate school at The Richard DeVos Graduate School of Management. This endeavor took Jim two years to complete and in August of 2012 he obtained a Master's in Business Administration.

Even after all these years, Jim still gets involved with every job. His commitment to making sure each customer's expectations are met continues to drive him in raising his standards; which to those who know him are legendary for perfection. His keen eye and attention to detail over the years has made the company's work truly superior to all others. It is through this kind of dedication Superior Acoustical Ceilings Incorporated has been able to prevail as a small business in our great state of Michigan.
